Much to my disappointment Velcro, my adopted stray cat, appears to be totally unaffected by catnip.

07:23 am - Occupy Auckland
So, this is what a reasonable Police response looks like regarding Occupy protestors.

Isn't this rather better than batons, tear gas and waiving guns around?
It disapoints me that lately the US loves to encourage democratic (and armed) protest in other countries but is ruthlessly suppressing it back home. Double standards much?

I wish we had subways in Auckland so we could do this:

I Love Improv Everywhere. I've always wanted to rally the larpers and do this type of thing as an advert for larp in NZ.

10:05 pm - Legend of the Seeker
So, I've just found out, from a friend that worked on Legend of the Seeker, that the production company is holding a costume clearance sale tomorrow, and I'm stuck working tonight and should be sleeping tomorrow. But I just can't resist the allure of having a good browse, and picking up a few choice articles, so I guess I'll have to have a short sleep night.
For you daysiders it'd be the equivalent of a 9-5 worker going to a sale that runs from midnight to 4am. - Grr, my hours are annoying sometimes.

11:27 pm - I did something stupid tonight
And managed to break my car key off in the ignition.

Sitting in the car staring at the stub of key I had left thinking 'what the hell do I do now?'

To make matters worse it was on the forecourt of a service station, in front of a pump and I was on my way to work.

So a quick call to a few locksmiths and the fastest any of them could get there would be minimum 1.5hrs.

I decided to continue trying to retrieve the end of the key out of the ignition barrel while I was waiting. Turns out I can still classify myself as a typical Kiwi after coming up with a No.8 Wire solution. Actually in this case it was TIG wire that I had a pack of and fashioned a hook and went fishing. :)

So, only a hour wasted doing that, and getting a flatmate to drop off my spare key, and managed to avoid the $140 call-out fee and $50/hr the locksmith was going to charge.

09:59 pm - Daddy's special little girl...
So, I had a call the other day at work from a guy wanting to book his daughter to fly from Kerikeri to Auckland.
I asked him if she was an unaccompanied minor or she was at least 16yrs+ and he said she was over 16.
After working out what flight suited him etc we got to the part where I had to enter in her details.....

"Whats her last name?"
"Matterson"
"Is that Matterson with two t's or one?"
"Oh, I'm not sure."
"Didn't you say she was your daughter?"
"Yeah, but she was to some other sheila"
"Okay then, we'll go for two t's then. Now whats her first name?"
"Danela"
"Is that D-A-N-E-L-A, or D-A-N-I-E-L-A?
"Oh, I can't remember, hang-on I'll just check my tattoo..."

*facepalm*

I bet she feels special...

So since my last post the one wedding in January has grown to 3 weddings now 'tis the season I suppose. Meh, always the bridesmaid, never the bride. ;p

Had a lovely picnic at the Manukau Botaniccal Gardens last weekend. I haven't been there before and I must say its a gorgeous hidden gem. Lovely landscaping with little lakes and streams. It really felt like it would be a great place for a vintage themed garden party.

Also saw Avatar in 3D over then weekend and was well impressed. I've seen alot of criticism over story/plot originality but I thinked thats a bit unfair, as I certainly found it enjoyable and engaging. But its the technical aspects of the film I was blown-away by - 3D has come a long way and I felt myself being immersed in the film, occasionally reaching out to brush away the bugs flying around the forest. Its well worth seeing.

05:02 pm - Meh..
Its been forever since I actually posted something again. I've really only been usung this to keep up with others on LJ and tend to be on FB more - here: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=763057515&ref=profile

Looking back since when I last posted I finally got off my arse and been using my staff travel more, heading off to both Europe and the USA. Over the last 10 months I've been to 9 countries and spent a total of 106 hours flying and I'd forgotten how much fun it is and have resolved to do it more often. The limiting factor has become time, though, since its really burnt through my leave. I was supposed to be going to San Diego to help run the Tournament of the Pheonix and then a side trip to Las Vegas but I just can't get the time off. Too many other things on the books over the next 6 months eating up my leave - a wedding & the Taupo Joust in january and a trip to Gold Coast in Feb. I also need to save some leave up because I'm hoping to head to Peru & Machu Picchu next year.

And I'm trying to squeeze in more time to work on my photography since its something I love doing. Specifically HDR, so I need to improve my technique.

Anyway, will attempt again to update more often. :)

12:59 am - Its been forever
since I updated this thing.
As some of you may or may not know my house was burgled about 2 weeks ago. It took the cops 3 days to show up and they got no usable crime scene info so yesterday I got a lovely letter saying my case has been archived due to no leads.
Bah..
Also after much wrangling with the insurance company we've finally come to an equitable settlement so I can start replacing things, like my beloved laptop. It still won't replace all the stuff I had on my laptop though, like a huge amount of my digital photography and pictures that are gone for good now because I was supid enough never to have backed it up.
Oh well. Since the burglary my cars broken down and cost mucho $$ to fix, and I got a flat tire so its been a crappy 2 weeks.
On the bright side 2 friends of mine are back from Sweden and staying with me for a while beofre heading back to Sweden to live. Feels much better having them in the house, just a pity they weren't in country 4 days earlier as the burglar(s) wouldn't have struck then.
Anyway, I'll try to update more often.
